Around Thanksgiving time I had the opportunity to participate in Pixels of Fury Competition a Graphic Design Competition held in cities all over the world. I was able to get into the New York Competition where I competed against 6 other talented creatives from other NY agencies. It was so much fun and super inspiring to be around other dare-devil designers. Check out the video below.
Despite being under difficult deadlines nearly every day, 20 minutes is incredibly short when your in it and every second counts. None the less, it was very challenging – but a rare learning opportunity to feel what it is like to design in a fishbowl and how that influences your process.
I didn't win the competition, but i had a lot of fun, and really enjoyed the support of my colleagues from Saatchi Wellness! They cheered super hard, and I left feeling like I won regardless.
If it's not clear from the video, there were hundreds of people that turned up to the Art Directors Club in NYC. Eyes glued to the screens around the main hall area, as a DJ blasted music. The energy and anxiety level was really high for all of us.
To make it harder, by best friend was going crazy right behind me.
My strategy, which was to execute a PSA poster message, did not wow and hardly made use of the Shutterstock library we were required to use. Other designers appeared to be flustered by the rules i think. If I had used more photographic elements, I may have won.
